What is Prayer?

Prayer is communication from one’s heart to God, by thought and by deeds, with or without words. Our Lord gave us an example of how to pray in the Lord’s Prayer (the “Our Father”), WWW.BCPONLINE.ORG, P.364.  But this is just one way to pray.  Whatever provokes an honest conversation and deepens your relationship with God is the right way for YOU to pray: Work? Silence? Words? Music? Breathing? Weeping? Laughing?  Meditation? Whatever works for you!

If you’re looking for some words, in addition to your own, the Book of Common Prayer (www.BCPonline.org) is filled with prayers for every moment.  Another good online resource is www.missionstclare.com. If you’d like to learn about silent Centering Prayer, a method of meditation used by Christians placing a strong emphasis on interior silence, check it out at www.centeringprayer.com.
